Painting with Narrative & Collage course

Build a story collage and paint it with energy, light and colour - FRIDAYS

EndedLawrenny

DESCRIPTION

Six-week course. Starts Thursday 5th October then every Friday for six weeks except 2nd Nov. 10am-2pm 4 participants maximum £300pp Some experience of working with colour and composition will be useful, although enthusiastic beginners welcome. All materials & equipment (except brushes) are provided. WHAT WE'LL BE DOING Build a story then paint it. Using collage, drawing and paint we’ll practise building a narrative and composition. This is great fun and loosens up the way we think about what a piece of art can be. We’ll focus on energy, light and colour to bring the work to life. We'll embrace it’s surreal qualities as we juxtapose perspectives, scales and light effects from a range of source material. Each participant will create their own composition. Final designs can be based on a meaningful moment, place or situation as Claire, Fiona and Sam chose to do, or could represent an excerpt from a favourite story, song or poem. Once happy with our compositions we'll create an original painting from it using acrylic paint (or oil paint if used before), palette knife and brush, working in layers to create a beautiful piece with interesting and unique imagery. WHAT IT INCLUDES The price of the workshop includes all materials & equipment except brushes (see below) including a cutting mat, knife and metal ruler. WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO BRING You'll need to bring lunch. Please bring two or three magazines or other printed material to cut up. Brushes are always best looked after by their owners. Please bring along a range of large brushes including: a 1-2” firm flat brush (this could be a good quality decorators brush), something like a number 8 and 4 long filbert bristle brushes, and perhaps a softer round or filbert brush size 2-4. The filbert brush is useful because it can be used on it's wide flat edge or side tip. You’ll need to wear suitable clothing. You are welcome to bring along your sketchbooks for use in some of the prep work but this is not essential. WHERE TO BUY BRUSHES The artists brushes I have suggested above are all available from West of Wales Art Supplies on Market Street in Haverfordwest (see Jeff). You can also get them on-line.
